Answer Board
The Answer Board is a tool to involve the students as much as possible during the teaching of the lesson. It also gives the teacher an indication of the level of comprehension of the concept being taught. The Answer Board is a 4" X 8" plastic card with numbers to display answers, to be used by each student.
EXAMPLE: What is 32 divided by 5?
Suggested procedure for using the Answer Board:
- Teacher gives the class a math problem, orally or written on the board.
- When a student arrives at an answer, it should be displayed in the top row of their Answer Board (while the remaining numbers and symbols are stored in the bottom two rows).
- The board is turned face down and the student raises a hand to indicate readiness.
- The teacher calls for the answer.
- The students, looking forward, raise their boards showing only the teacher their answers.
- The teacher gives the correct answer after viewing the boards.
Advantages:
- Each student has an opportunity to relate to the teacher.
- Other children do not ridicule a student with a wrong answer; only the teacher sees the response.
- The student with the right answer gets the opportunity to display that knowledge to the teacher.
- There is total involvement in the learning process by all students.
